The CVT in Fendt's, AGCO's, Challenger's, and Masseys is basically a planetary gear set. The engine's crankshaft turns the inside of the planetary. The ring gear is driven by the transmission's own variable displacement hydraulic pump and motor. When the ring gear turns the same speed as the crankshaft the tractor is stopped. The slower the ring gear turns the faster the tractor moves so as speed increases the power transfer becomes less hydraulic and more direct/mechanical. To go in reverse the ring gear turns faster than the crankshaft to run the output shaft backwards. The output shaft from the planetary then runs a high/low gearbox for field/road speed ranges. It is important to run in field mode under heavy loads or the hydraulic part of the transmission will burn up. They operate the same in all brands except Massey which has the transmission programmed to drive like a 21 speed powershift. Deere's IVT works similar to this as they bought rights to some of Fendt's patents when they developed this transmission.

Timing Your Magneto Ignition Tractor - by Chris Pratt. On our first cosmetic restoration, not having a manual, we carefully marked the wires, taped the magneto in the position it came off, and were careful not to turn the engine over while we had these components off. We thought we could get by with this since the engine ran perfectly and would not need any internal work. After the cleanup and painting was done, we began reassembly and finally came to t
