I had that problem on one of my tractors too. Got sick of messing around with the carb and I bought and inline electric shut off valve. Just install it in the line going to the carb, hook the wire to the power in side of the coil and no more leak. It will work on pos. and neg. ground systems. Cost, $27.00 well worth it.
