The front bumper on my '92 F250 was cracking a few years ago, so I took it off and made a bracket out of 6" x 3/8" plate that ran all along the back of the bumper - and welded ears on that to bolt it back to the frame.

A few weeks later I smacked a big 8 point whitetail as solid as could be at about 60 mph - it felt like picking up a limp pillow case full of chicken bones when we tried to see if anything was salvageable.

It didn't leave so much as a scratch on my pickup.

Not sure if I was just lucky - after seeing/hearing other people's stories - or if that bumper brace really made that much difference....
