Allen, I bought an auto-darkening helmet a few years ago to use with a MIG welder. Did a little research at the time & discovered there are two types. The better ones trigger on the rapid change in brightness when you strike the arc, regardless of how bright the ambient light is. I've never had a problem with sunlight affecting mine. The cheaper ones work solely on how bright the light is & will darken if you look at the sun or a bright light. When you go buy one, hold it up to the bright lights in the store, or take it out into the sun. If it darkens and stays dark when exposed to the sun, you don't want it. Mines a fixed shade, think its about shade 3 when its light (looks to be about the same as a pair of acetlyene cutting goggles) and darkens to shade 10. I got mine at HF, it had a brand name element in one of their el-cheapo helmets. Think it was about $70-80 at the time. Took the element out of the cruddy helmet and put it in an old fixed lense helmet which was orders of magnitude more comfortable that the HF one. You can also buy just the auto-darkening lens from a welding supply place if you already have a good helmet. I think the 50 amp outlets are sold as range outlets. You shouldn't have any trouble getting one at any of the big box home stores. Dryer outlets are generally 30 amp. Keith

12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
