Sheppard was from Pennsylvania and produced tractors with diesel engines of their own design from about 1949 until 1956 although I remember seeing ads in farm magazines for them until about 1958. I remember that because we were shopping for a new tractor in 1958 and I stopped at a Sheppard dealer and all he had was a big poster on the wall showing the SD-4. It looked pretty snappy and, as I recall, it had a tannish, greenish (?) paint scheme which was a departure from their traditional orange. He had no tractors in stock and was rather evasive about when he would be getting any new ones. Sheppard stopped building farm tractors and concentrated on building power steering units, mostly for trucks. Sheppard had pioneered power steering for farm tractors in the early 50's. I heard later that many of their tractors suffered from rear end problems. Now you know all that I know about Sheppard.
