It has to be before 1958, as it would be a Massey Ferguson spreader that year and after. Like most ground-drive spreaders, one lever is to engage the beaters, and one lever engages the the apron chain (usually with several notches for a speed variation). If all that is wrong with it are bent sprockets, it certainly is worth fixing. Around here, there are many small horse stables and people who raise a few goats, sheep, or chickens as a sideline. They don't load with a front end loader, but with wheelbarrows and forks, so floor strength isn't as big a concern. New spreaders from the major manufacturers are too big for these people, and many of the new smaller spreaders from shortline companies offered on the market don't exhibit the quality of construction you'd expect for the money, so the old spreaders soldier on.
