The speed issue is not related to how the browser hooks up to the internet, rather it is related to how big your browser is compared to how fast your computer is. On old equipment, explorer will be much slower. On new stuff, there is not a noticable difference.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
