Main bolts need factory specs

I've rebuilt many BD144s - so if you get stuck on somthing - just post here - or email me a jdemaris@usadatanet.net With some of the bolts you cannot assume proper torque just by looking - especially the main-bearing cap bolts. BD144s use two different types with different torques. All the BD144s are pretty much the same - except the early ones have in-line, air-governor BPE injection pumps, and later ones have rotary DPA CAV (Roosamaser clones) with centrifugal governors. Also, for some strange reason - most tapped bolt holes in the block are heli-coiled - not tapped directly into the cast-iron and they can be spun out if not careful. Also, many important bolts are not grade-marked, and some are drilled for wire-locking. Head-bolt torque - 75 ft. lbs. Rod-bolts - with drilled heads - 35 ft. lbs. Main bearing caps - two types use Type #1 - raised thread "Pitch bolts" 75 ft. lbs. Type #2 - Place bolts - shank and thread same diameter - 85 ft. lbs. Fuel injection static timing - 20 degrees BTDC Hot valve lash - intake and exhaust .020"
