When we lived outside Duluth we had a heater in the lower hose of our gas MH50. Believe it or not we never did need to use the engine heater, but obviously the previous owner had. We also had a 1000 watt in-line cheapy in the return heater hose of our trusty F-100 with a 360 V-8 in it. One time when your basic January cold front went through, which meant -15 and wind during the heat of the day, old faithful fired right up. It had sat out in the wind for 2 or 3 days before hand. Think I plugged it in about a couple hours before. That does get into something else. You might want to be sure when you fire up whatever that the lube oil will still flow into the engine, trans or whatever. In the truck yarn above, I sat there for about 5 or 10 minutes while the manual transmission howled until the lube melted and started working. Had 5W-30 in the engine, so the rods stayed in it.
