Sleeve Hole Cracks: Repair or Not

I've run across cracks between sleeve holes at the top of engine blocks. Some people weld them, others I have heard leave them alone. Reason being the head gasket and sleeve will seal regardless of a crack. Has anyone ever had a problem? What has your experience found?
