When I worked as a mechanic at a Dodge dealership the 94 12 valve Cummings diesels came out with a new injection pump and there was a problem with them smoking and missing at higher rpm with elevations above 5000 feet and the fix was to advance the timing on the injection pumps 2 degrees and what a difference it made!!!! A lot more power and fuel mileage went way up. So I've been thinking that some of these diesel tractors might be able to do the same thing. So bumping up the timing 1 or 2 degrees would not hurt to see what happens! I plan on doing this to my 930CK and doing 2 degrees only to start with. Maybe more is possible with out causing problems. Has anybody tried this? I think this method is a lot cheaper then making the adjustment of running more fuel through the injection pump. I know that more fuel running into the combustion chamber can make your diesel run hotter and smoke more and that smoke is nothing more then unburned fuel. Or how about doing both, more fuel and advancing the timing? Something to think about. Chris Hotchkiss, CO
