I've had a Long 1099 three point back hoe for years now. I first used in on my MF-135 that had a loader and I used the loader hydraulics (initially three point pump, later crankshaft driven pump). The loader would jump around when digging because it had more force than weight. I was able to run a sturdy chain from the lower three point pins under the tractor drawbar support so the weight of the tractor held down the back hoe. I had to make a much sturdier top link as the normal one couldn't stand the forces. Now I have it on the JD 4020 and so far I've gotten along without that down pressure chain but it would be better with the chain and the 4020 category 2 top link is stronger than the aftermarket one for the MF-135. It makes a better hoe to have it rigidly mounted to the tractor but that can make it harder to take off for other projects. Gerald J.
