I'm an alcoholic and twenty years ago spent a long time in a treatment center drying out and learning how to start living without drinking. That was hard, but physically and emotionally it was nothing compared to quitting smoking. That's hard. Thirteen years later my arm still remembers how it feels to lift the butt to the lips. Worth it, though. My father died of congestive heart failure when he was 56, after a stroke at 53 (It was over a month before he was able to drink again; he started back smoking as soon as he got out of hospital.) and triple bypass at 55. I'm fifty-five next week - pulse 60, blood pressure normal, weight 155 lbs, down from 250 thirty years ago, work circles around co-workers twenty years younger. If I can, you can.
