Well done Jerry. I second your post. Diagnosis is a much more reliable option than just guessing. Changing out parts is expensive enough, but without them being faulty or not changing the situation is just downright wasteful.
If it is only high idle it could even be backlash in the timing department - worn keys, maybe -allowing timing to vary. Not likely, but possible.
