Capacitors (alias condensers) across the points fail far more often than coils. But coils can fail. Check the capacitor by replacement. Then check by manually opening the points with the ignition switch on. A good wire from the coil getting near (1/4- 1/2 inch) to ground should get a fat blue spark is the coil is good. Nothing if it is bad or there's an open in the wire supplying power to the coil. My 4020 quit last week from a scotchtap connection that went open. Its not in the tractor anymore... Use a volt meter or test light to confirm there's power at the coil and showing across the points when the points are open. Make sure the points do open and close and have proper gap or you are spinning other wheels needlessly. Gerald J.
