If it's the original Farm Boss, i.e. 041 - it had a persistant problem with developing a very fast high-idle and it has nothing to do with the Tillotson carb. Original 040 or 041 has a horizontal cylinder - and the air-filter cover and choke lever is on top. Same with the shut-off if it has one. The first 040s did not have a electric shut-off - the choke was used for shut-down. It's an intake and vacuum hose problem. The fiber intake manifold often gets loose and/or warped and the gaskets get sucked in where it bolts to the cylinder. Also - the carb uses an vacuum hose that connects the vacuum power fuelpump to the crankcase.
To fix the manifold - remove the carb, then remove the manfold via two allen-drive bolts. If it's warped - just run it over some sandpaper. Make a new gasket - and reinstall the bolts with some Loctite. Just about every 041 Farm Boss we sold new - came back with the problem within a year.
In regard to the vacuum impulse hose - just replace it with some aftermarket hose. The aftermarket hose lasts much longer than the OEM molded hose from Stihl.
If you have a newer Farm Boss that is half-plastic instead of magnesium, and the the choke control and air-filter is NOT on top - than it's probably an 028 of some sort. They had similar problems - but there's no intake manifold involved. Impulse hose and intake-boot failure instead.
