I think you can blame that one on the EPA. The thought was that gasoline fumes were escaping into the atmosphere through the vent hole. Of course, without the vent hole, the gas gurgles and gulps and splashes out onto you, the tractor, and the ground, and guess where all of those vapors go? There has to be some way to provide a closeable vent. Scrounge through the plumbing dept. down at homer depot, I bet you might find something that can be adapted.
