The answer is YES to both questions. You do not have live PTO on your M, so when the PTO is engaged, the tranny is in gear, and you push down on the clutch, your tranny and PTO are connected - and free from the engine. The BIG DEAL is when you operate a bush hog, or other PTO implement with a lot of kinetic energy. If you need to stop suddenly, when you push in the clutch, the momentum of the mower continues to drive the transmission (and the tractor)for several feet - right through the fence, or inot the side of the barn. With an ORC, the PTO spins, and does NOT drive the tranny, so you are able to stop the tractor motion. A PTO tree sprayer would be an implement where it would not be needed- but it still makes it easier to shift gears on the go.
