Salvage yard owner opined that with the recent gains in iron prices, a lot of stuff that would have been held back for parts in other times, is now going to the smelter. He expects that down the road it will be more difficult than it has been to find some parts and therefore they will command a higher price. You might consider that if what you have is not worth more than scrap value now, it cannot depreciate much and if you keep it long enough it could become worth several multiples of what it is now worth. This kind of thinking may be part of a hang-over from the Great Depression.
