Not to sharp on McCormick-Deering O-6 tractors but from what I can see in the pic is an industrial type front axle. Looks like the hood and tank are on an angle where they meet. It would look real good to just straighten up the sheetmetal and give it a coat of paint. Might make a good head scratcher at the tractor shows. I know I have encountered a few tractors over the years at different tractor shows that made folks say what the heck is that and why would anyone do that. At one show there was an older man sitting in his lawn chair and we were gathered around his tractor asking the same questions as above and the older man replied that he did it to make people wonder like we were and he just smiled and then went on to explain that he had a pile of leftovers that he didnt want to through out so he put it all together and ended up with what we were looking at.
