Not sure why, but if you get to pushing to hard on one side it can turn a rail and put you on the ground. Looks like the one I helped rerail in the Wyo mountains years ago except the snow was 12 feet deep and they were useing a wing trying to widen the cut when it turned a rail and put 2 units on the ground, not a fun 2 days with only 1 D8 Cat. Most impressive snow plow is UP's big rotary, has been known to send tie plates over 1/4 mile, and does a real job on ties left to close to the rail too. They got a good work out during the 49 blizzard when 1/3 of the US was buried under snow. With 6 stalled between Cheyenne and Sidney, Ne, mostly all near Kimball. 1 stalled east of Kearney, Ne. 3 stalled between Seneca and Broken Bow with 200 passengers. 1 made it to within 100 yards of the Alliance depot. The City of Denver Zephyr stalled at Nunn,Colo. At least 50 trains were reported stalled between Pocatello, Idaho, Salt Lake City and Omaha, Nebr. 1000 people stranded on 6 east bound trains near Green River, Wyo. This does not take in to accout the cars and bus's stranded. Wyo figured at least 4000 total by Jan 3. Probely more than you wanted to hear, but thought might be interesting to some. Bob

He had told my father
