In the past, a 6 volt battery had higher cranking amps than a 12 volt battery. That is why a pair of 6 volt batteries were used instead of one 12 volt. Technology has advanced to the point that now a single 12 volt battery will get the job done, but be sure you choose the correct 12 volt battery. Not just any 12 volt battery will get the job done.
