I'd be concernd too. My friend had a large stand of highly valuble black walnut on his property. He talked to local loggers to harvest them but before he could arrange a deal, some SOB came in and cleaned all the trees out. He was an absentee landowner and the locals knew it. BUT, he later called in our state forest rangers who matched up the stump's growth rings with growth rings on walnut logs brought to a sawmill in a bordering state. I don't recall if an arrest was made but made for interesting detective work.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
