Jonathan, Hoped someone had answered you by now on JD board. Send me a email and I'll be glad to send some wiring diagrams for the B to help you out. It's going to depend on what distributor you have there a Wico XB or Delco and if you have it on 6V still or 12V and negative or positive ground. That B should originally be 6V positive ground. It just sounds like wiring isn't right and something has been changed from your description. Originally should have been a black wire from ignition switch to the Wico XB if on 6V positive ground setup. If a Delco and 6V + grd. same thing black wire to - neg. side of coil and black wire from + pos. side of coil to distributor. If you have battery set up on negative ground 12V or 6V for some reason being converted you would need to run ignition wire to + pos. side of coil and - neg. side of coil to distributor. Email and will send diagrams to make it clear for you if my power isn't out again later.
