Yes those chains do look small but they are 3/8. The trailer and chains are borrowed from a machinery dealer and those chains meet dot specs. Picture is not giving the chains justice. I have seen tractors tied in this fashion when more than one are stack end to end on a trailer wth no room between them for the angle chains. And yes it may be to far forward on the trailer. The tag on the side on the trailer says to put 16% on the load on the truck.So that would be about 2000 lbs. Without a scale to load that is tough to guess. He is probably about right.
