We're starting to see a backlash against the "criminal's rights" types, at least in the rural areas. A fellow here had been ripped off several times on a remote farm, so decided to start staying up there at night- sure enough, here comes tweaker, looking for more stuff to sell for the next round of injections. Local prosecutor charged him with manslaughter, his defense was that he was trying to fire over the guys head in the dark, was it was just an unlucky bad shot. The guy was quite a ways away, so it was either a lucky or an unlucky shot, depending on your politics. Jury acquitted him almost before they got to the jury room. One juror, with just a hint of a smile, explained that they couldn't see sending a man to prison for being a poor shot.
