I need advice and direction on which winch to buy. I occasionally haul 3500lb to 4500lb small tractors a few hundred miles and use a small 7000lb low-boy trailer to do it. Occasionally one won't start and I hand winch it on which is not easy so I have been looking at electric winches. I know enough to look at a planetary gear model and would like to find one I can temporarily mount and unmount for theft prevention. Trouble is, there are dozens of choices and I don't have an idea what level to start looking and what lb. pull will get the job done. I don't want to spend too little and fail any more that I want to spend too much and not use it enough. I don't want to buy Harbor Freight and I do want a brand name like Ramsey or ??. What should I start looking at and what do you think it would cost? I'm thinking in the $400? to $800? range but I really don't know much about winches or prices. I am looking for advice and think this is the place to get it. Thank you in advance.
