Be careful if you plan on welding. Cast iron should be heated up evenly before attempting to weld. Usually to 400 degrees or so. This allows the metal to expand at the same rate. If you weld an area without heating it up first, you will most likely find spider cracks all around the weld after it cools. Using Nickel rod works, but you must only weld a very short length at a time. (1/2") Let it completely cool, and weld again. Another thing to consider, if the weld is near any of the cylinders, the heat generated can distort the cylinder wall slightly. But enough to possibly have to rebore. Just some things to consider.
