A couple of years ago 2 guys from Arkansa I think had enough balls to steel em right out of the sale barn pens at night...say severl days after the sale. No body was there because nobody had made arangements to pick anything up. 2 people saw trucks pulling out of there. Not unusall to see though. They did this to several barns around. Finally through brands, they tracked em down to a feedlot they owned in Arkansa. Id highly recomend if you dont live in an area where you need a hot brand...do it anyway. We come up short out of the pastures some times to, but at least if there is a mark and you can prove you use that mark you at least have a fighting chance. Of course you can do it on paper. We had a feedlot guy that would go out and buy cattle for farmers. Hed buy the cattle for the farmer, do the feeding for him, and he would provide the corn. A way to soposedly get more out of your corn. Anyhow a tornado came through and hit the feedlot head on. People came to check on the cattle. He was short about 3000hd. He was selling 2 or 3 people the same group of feeders and then using the money to operate with! Needless to say both of these people went to the pen for a while. Then of course you have the ocasional cult deal where they kill the cow to suck the blood out and take the liver and kindneys or something and leave the rest for you to clean up.
