It all depends! If there is something in the way that a right hand hinged door won't clear, then ya hinge it on the left! If the doorway goes into a room, and the left side wall is right there, hinge it on that wall. But, if there is an obstruction the door would hit, or make it not open all the way, then hinge it on the other wall! I don't think there is a set rule for door hinging, just common sense! Except---those stupid shows on TV that the fools that do the work seem like all they are interested in doing is selling lots of stuff, and promoting it for HD or Lowes!
