Al, YES it affects the electrical system. I am NOT a fan of the 8 volt battery system ESPECIALLY since a good working 6 volt system ought to start an A just fine even in the dead of winter. In the event shes a slow cranker I would buy the heaviest rated good quality 6 volt battery that physically fits into the battery compartment and use 00 Gaue battery n starter n ground cables. Then if she still cranks slow GET THE STARTER AND/OR SWITCH REPARED/REPLACED. The 8 volt system is an oddball, batterys are rare, the light bulbs will glow bright but burn out faster, if its a coil ignition system instead of a magneto and theres no external ballast used, the coil will run a bit on the warm side and the points wont last as long.... Get a heavy duty battery n change to 00 Gauge cables n fix any charging or starter problems n you ought to be fine and shes still original and not cobbled up is my advice John T
