The Iowa BB61 and WisconsonBB64 were struck fron the Naval Vessel Register ( Category B) on 3-17-06. The Iowa was towed from (I went to see it!!!) Newport RI ( Next to the Carrier's Forestal and Saratoga) through the Panama Cannal to Susian Bay , near San Fransisco. The New Jersy BB62 is a museamum in New Jersy. The Missori BB63 is a museam at Pearl Harbor. All could be recalled. The New Jersy has the most years of use and some metal corousion. The Iowa needs to have the # 2 turret repaired. All of the parts are in the turret. The Missouri is in pretty good shape. The best one is the Wisconson BB64 in Va. The defense bill for 2007 directs the navy to keep the spare parts and that the Iowa and Wisconson must be kept preserved. The Navy sometimes DOES care about Musemum ships for Reactivation. The Massachusetts was in dry dock a few years ago and had a leak around a propeller shaft. They wanted to cut off the shaft and welt a patch as a quick fix but the Navy said no.
