I have moved 4 mobile homes, all 14x70, in my life behind 2 different farm tractors. Two have been moved behind my IH 1066, two behind a Ford 5000 diesel. Totally destroyed the hitch on the second one I moved with the 1066, was running without adequate comunnication from following vehicle and misjudged a square corner turn and dropped the axles in the ditch/off a culvert. Only direction I could go was forward under extra power than I was using, could not hold thru the corner even with the 1066. Thought maybe could get away with going straight on across into disked field, which worked fine until the very rear of trailer scrubbed the grader ditch on way down and bent tongue up slightly. Once the frame is compromised, it is all downhill from there. Within a half mile after that, the hitch was gouging the road. Have moved 2 here in Illinois with the 5000. By then we had cell phones, plus the 5000 doesn"t have a cab so can actually see a little better what is going on back there. First IL move was about 15 miles on good, wide roads with wide intersections so was actually easy. Second move was only about 4 miles, but the first three were right down US HWY 136. Won"t EVER try that again, even with a yellow flashing light on the following vehicle people pass blind, and won"t stop to allow me to swing left to set up a hard right hand turn. Had one pass my wife on the right after she pulled right into the middle of the road with all flashers going and yellow on top. I am glad she yelled on the cell phone in almost a panic STOP. He went on around and almost took out the front of the tractor as I was starting the RH turn. Too much weight behind me to stop that quick, so tractor front end was in far ditch as turn commenced. I had visions of the busted frame again, but after a generous application of RH brake and power I salvaged the turn. DON"T TRY IT.

Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
