Ford 4.6L V8 are they cold blooded?.

My sister bought herself a 2002 Ford Explorer with the 4.6L V8 in it, and with these cold below zero winter temps as of late around here, it has failed to start on several mornings. I don't know the miliage or any other details beyond that, but it made me wonder if perhaps the 4.6 was known to be cold blooded? or if there is something wrong with hers?.
