Dave, I think its a combination of genetics, and habitat. The farther north you go the more weight deer have to put on to survive winter. I was at an archery hunt by park rapids and there was a film crew there, can`t remember where from. They said they love filming in Texas cause the rack size truly is huge, but the body size makes em look even bigger on film. He gave the example of a 125 class buck on a 150 lb body, versus the same 125 rack on a 240 lb body in saskatewan(sp). Those big bodied northern deer make it look more like a basket rack. Must be some truth in it cause my best friend has had a reletive come up from the Dallas area to hunt deer here(MN)the last two years. His first year out, he shot a yearling doe and thought it was just great, even remarking how nice the body size was. Took us til last year, and him getting to see some more deer hanging to realize how small of a deer he had shot. We just didn`t want to burst his bubble. Anyway, it`s the head gear that really matters.

Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
