yup, pretty much all vehicles from the early 1990's on foreward have the "black box" it works a s you say. it will record an event, ie air bag deployment. it will display most anything the sensors and on board diagnostics read on the vehicle. brake pressure, throttle position, speed, engine rpm ect.using a laptop and the software (about 3 grand for the software) you can get a complete print out of what happened. most accident reconstruction engineering firms use this.
