Chappy, The best way is like these guys said. The way we implemented it here is that each operator has a notebook in the shed by the fuel tank, and each week at check time nobody gets a check if his notebook is behind, the service due hours or date is grease penned in above the oil dipstick on everything including our pick-ups. Doesn't matter who drove what, like I said nobody gets a check til all the paper work is done for all tractors. It takes about 10 minutes each week to check it all. We are a small operation also, and it's hard for you to keep everything logged in when your miles from the shop,or on a tractor yourself and if you don't do it or see it gets done-it don't get done. When we check the tickets to see who signed for parts we look at the books to verify it got fixed or installed on the tractor. It usually takes a new man about 2-3 weeks to get it down pat, then it's no trouble at all. Another thing we found most useful is to keep one man on one tractor, no slip seating. The man and the equipment do alot better. The maintenance or the records won't be any better than who ever takes care of it makes it.
