You've got fouled spark plugs. You've done what some spark plug companies used to do.. that is.. introduce an air gap.(they used to call it a booster gap. Basically, the energy is being bled from your center sparkplug electrode before it fires. The air gap causes your system to funtion similar to a CDI system building voltage to such a high level that it will allow the spark to jump even though some of it may still be being bled off (the carbon deposits on the plug are 'shorting out' the spark energy to a certain degree. What you've done is a technique we used to do find out which plug was bad using the plug wires instead of the coil wire. Give it a go !
