I think that it mostly depends on the part of the country you are in as to which sells the best. Here in northwest florida I have been in the hay business for 28 years and up until about 5 years ago most of the horse market was in small squares but now I sell about 75 to 80 per cent in 4x4 round bales. I think that most people like the fact that they can store them outside, handle them with a compact tractor, haul them on small traillers or trucks and they are cheaper too. I still put up about 2000 small squares a year and sell about half of them out of the field and put the other half n the barn to sell through the winter. I think we all better prepare for some increases in fertilizer prices with the large increase predicted in corn acreage this year.
