Sharp blades on your cutter will leave sharp stumps. I leave the blades on my old brush hog pretty dull, so that when they cut a tree, the stub that's left has been shattered. It does more beating than cutting. This makes for more work on the tractor and brush hog, but I figure that a few extra gallons of diesel is cheaper and faster than fixing a tire.
