I`m a ford truck guy by nature, I own an 01 F350 and love it. but...... I have had the chance to start diagnosing and repairing these allison transmissions, so I`ve gotten a fair amount of seat time in the 2500 and 3500`s. What a great handling and driving truck. I had heard initially they had some cold start problems when the duramax first came out, but the ones I`ve been around fire right up even below zero. Nice power, quiet cab. I think initially the chevy diesel thing was kinda looked at sideways by us Ford and Dodge guys, cause GM never really had a horse in the race. I think as time goes on and miles get put on these newer trucks the duramax`s will be as good as any. As for what to pay and the miles on the truck, that`s up to you. Good luck, I sure wouldn`t mind owning one as my next truck
