Yep nickel rod, its tough stuff and doesn't grind well after welding. And yes its for arc welding and cost about a buck a rod in 1/8 so it can get hard on the back pocket if you use much of it but its also very strong and will hold better then most other rod like 7018 or 7014 or 611 etc. I have 3 point arms that I have welded up with the stuff and they are still holding after 10 years of ruff work.
