Hey there, I have a 89 Cummins that I experienced the very same issue with. When my truck started leaking, it was because it had sat almost a year because of transfer case problems. My rear main seal was leaking and on the advice of my mechanic, I bought and added to the engine oil, a bottle of TriSeal. This within 45 miles had stopped the leak and in the last 2 years has not leaked at all. I bought the stuff at CarQuest and I have been real impressed by it. The power steering had started to leak also and this additive has stopped both leaks. If I were you, I would try it, all you have to lose is the cost of the additive, and it could save you hundreds in unnessasary expense. The seals in those old trucks dry out from not being used, once they expand they seal just fine and will last.
