There were at least 7 or 8 models in the 801 series. I like the 861, and have my doubts about the Select-O-Speed models (871, 881). See the link for more info... A good 861 would probably sell for $3800 to $4000 in my area. That means $3700 for a tractor that needs a rebuild (that might run from $200 to $1000 or more, depending on what it needs) is overpriced, even if it does have a beat-up old bush hog with it :-). To say nothing of the risk that once you begin the rebuild it might not be possible to finish it without replacing major components (e.g. engine block, transmission, etc.). I say keep looking.
