Last fall I had the same problem with my 4x4 '98 3500 Dodge Cummins front driveshaft. I created an eBay alert for the part. Within a couple of weeks, I had a good driveshaft installed for total cost of $43. I haven't cancelled that alert and I still see one or two Dodge front shafts per week. Measure the collapsed length and ask the seller to do the same. If the offered shaft is too long, it shouldn't cost much to have it shortened. $350 is about double what I was quoted at two machine shops in my area. I suspect that the center ball in the CV joint is bad. You can get by for quite awhile by applying grease with a tongue depressor or brush. BTW, the flange where the driveshaft connects to transfer case can be very difficult to separate. After removing the 4 bolts, engage 4LO and turn the steering wheel to full lock either way. Drive forward several feet and it should pop loose.
