Our prayers are with her and you. My wife had her entire colon out 20 yrs ago when she was only 34. Ulcerative collitis (no cancer). Just our opinion after going through the whole thing , they might better take the complete colon. A person doesn't need it anyway. It's just a social organ. Trying to "section" together a colon has not been very successful in the long haul. If she has what they call an Illeostomy , there is no colon to have to heal up. The small intestine protrudes through the lower abdomen and empties into a bag. It is all liquid at that point so doesn't make for discomfort or an unsightly bulging bag. You can't even tell she has it. Seriously , talk to the surgeon about this option. She doesn't need that colon and if part of it had cancer , then get rid of it all. Most people we know that tried to "section" ended up having it all out within a couple of years. The one and only reason to try to save part of the colon is so as not to have to wear a pouch. You will probably get rid of the cancer but the colon healing up and working correctly is a long shot at best. I know you are probably tight on time but please get some other opinions on this. E-mail me if you need any questions answered about the procedure. We got our education the hard way about this. No one talked about this stuff 20 yrs ago. She will get through it fine. This is pretty routine stuff now-a-days.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
