Auctions are great places to get hay wagons as we call them out here in the sticks. I have an open air barn for my wagons and mother nature doesn't protect the wood rack well. I take cheep auction wagons with the racks mostly gone. Take two 14'x 2"x 10", treated, bolt them on edge to the bolsters(up right brackets from the frame) (bolster) is at the front and pivits at the center. Not all newer wagon gear have these. Next I use 8'x 2"x 6" at 24" centers. I taper the 2"x 6" from the 14' runners to 3" at each end. I attach the 2"x 6" to the runners with 2"x 3/8" angle iron at the 16" centers. I then put 6" rounded edge deck boards down with galvanize screws. I then bolt 2"x 3" treated boards all the way around the rack through the 2"x 6"'s. After it is complete if you don't have a bolster take the bolts on opposit sides front and back to let the wagon flex. Mother nature is kinder to this set up but you can't haul small grain.
