For less than 80HP a Ford thousand series. Take your pick on which HP you want. Very simple and reliable, no bells and whistles and the price is right. The ford 5000 is the flagship of this crowd.

For gardening..... Farmall 140. A well outfitted 140 with fert. dist. and a Cole planter is absolutely the best for a "large" garden. That tractor also has alot of gumption for a small package!! It will surprise you.

Above 80HP, I don"t have an opinion. I don"t play farm that big yet ;)
