I think its less a case of laziness than nowadays many people dont know how to drive a standard shift along with the fact that many pickups are bought for transportation (commuting, running errands)and recreation use (towing boat, camper, snowmobiles etc) more often than for work use. I have noticed in the last few years almost all new full sized trucks on dealers lots are auto's. Myself, my current car and pickup are auto's although I drove standard shift pickups for the first 20 years of my driving career. I do like a standard shift truck myself and think its a shame if theres no longer a choice. Is GM doing away with manual transmissions in all the new models of pickups or just the diesels?? Could be the Allison is the only tranny they have that will handle the new diesels power and torque?? Or as stated maybe too few standard shift full sized trucks are sold new anymore.
