In most cases the automatic is MUCH more solid then the stick shift. Exhibit "A" is sitting in our yard right now. 2001 Chevy with the deisel and a six speed, third gear is out after only 100K and very little "real" pulling. Ford is the same way. On a Dodge the manual might be better then the auto, but then thats like saying a skunk thats been dead three days doesn't stink as bad as one that's been dead 4 days.
